'Nullawa' means the land in Nhunggal language. This piece is inspired by a recent commission work I created that reflected the strength, resilience and regrowth of the land after the devastation of the bushfires. 'Nullawa' represents the importance of sustainability and that there is always hope if we continue to learn from the longest surviving culture in the world.
The centre section illustrates community and how we need to come together to care for our land. We need to learn from our past to ensure the unique beauty of this land can be enjoyed for many generations to come. The u-shapes are used to show people as this is the mark that would have been left on Nullawa after sitting around a campfire. The green reflect the gumtrees and life in the bush with the browns showing our earth. The layers of this artwork reflect the layers of Nullawa and culture, coming together with respect and hope for the future.
